CARL H. SPEAR, OD, MBA, FAAO DR. CARL SPEAR completed his undergraduate education at Western Kentucky University and is a 1991 graduate of the University of Alabama School of Optometry at Birmingham. Additionally, Dr. Spear completed a Residency in Primary Care Optometry/Ocular Disease at Northeastern State University College of Optometry, in Tahlequah Oklahoma and a Master’s in Business Administration at Auburn University. Dr. Spear was the founder and owner/operator of both Sight and Sun Eyeworks and Panhandle Vision Institute. He sold the seven location, vertically integrated, practices in 2016. While growing his own practices, Dr. Spear has also worked in a variety of industry settings including: – Senior Vice President of Eye Care Essilor Luxottica North America – Senior Director, Professional Relations, Vision Group Holdings – Consulting Director, Professional Development and Program Implementation at Alcon – Assistant Professor of Optometry at Northeastern State University College of Optometry where he taught courses in laser therapy, systemic medications, and advanced therapeutic and diagnostic clinical procedures. – Southeast Region Director Growth and Development Vision Source – Director of Professional Relations, Novartis Ophthalmics – Director Education and Vendor Relations Consultant, Vision Source – Center Director, Omega Health Systems In addition to lecturing, writing, and consulting, Dr. Spear is also active in the following organizations: - Sec-Tres, Board of Directors, American Academy of Optometry - Member, The American Optometric Association - Member, Florida Optometric Association - Member, Think About Your Eyes, Board of Directors - Chair, Florida Optometric Association Industry Relations - Chair, Florida Optometric Association Education Committee - Co-Chair Health Care Alliance Patient Safety - Member American Telemedicine Association - Past Member, Florida Board of Optometry - Past Chair, Florida Board of Optometry Probable Cause Panel In addition to his career in eye care, Dr. Spear retired from the United States Armed Forces after 39 years of service (24 Army and 13 Air Force) in October of 2022.
